Don't count on this being stable for very long. Expect prices to continue rising for at least the next month or so. Still unstable in middle-east, still hurricanes developing in the gulf, and the decades of underinvestment the major oil companies put into gas refineries won't be fixed overnight. Oh yeah, Demand ain't dropping. I have no clue why not, but it's not. The high prices haven't yet hurt the summer driving season. So combine, supply worries, production woes with peak demand & that's what you get. (This isn't intended to be political; my grandmother owns several oil wells & has stock in several oil companies; thanks to grandpa's 50 years in the oil/nat gas industry; this info comes striaght from the gas companies & investment magazines) However, most experts think the rapid rise in prices is over. (I filled up last Friday for 2.06; I filled up today for 2.45). 40 cents over 4 days is a bit extreme. Try to look for a station away from the highway if you need to fill up; those big travel centers are often a few cents higher than elsewhere. use the website mentioned above, and you should be able to get the best deals you can. Few tips (was on CNN a few days ago, but I can't find it). Drive slow (esp with an older car). My 92 Taurus gets 30-35 miles per gallon at 55 mph, it gets 20 (maybe), if I drive 70 mph. Pack light; the more wieght, the worse full economy. At highway speeds, use AC, at slower speeds roll down windows.
