G'day, people! I'm currently in week 4 of "living on my own except for the cat". For those who don't know (and that's most of you, I guess), I'm 32 and living* with my father and stepmother on a mountain in south-eastern Australia. (* except for now. Read on). http://www.geocities.com/merricb/photos.htm Ignore the photos of me. They're from a few years ago now. Look at the photos of the house. Yes, stop giggling at the photos of me, and go down to the photos of the house. No, that's not the cat I'm talking about. Alas, Tika, the cat in the photos, died three years ago. My new cat is white and named Lil, and is currently on the table... get off, Lil! It's a nice house, but I can't get broadband. Arggh! Anyway, as I was saying before you distracted me, I'm currently on my own except for the cat, three geese, three ducks and four chickens. My father and stepmother are currently in Italy. Milan, the last time I heard. They'll be there for another three or four weeks. They did this last year as well. Thankfully, we're back into spring. I *hate* it when it's dark. Of course, now I'm getting up with the sun and not getting enough sleep. I can't win. One reason I hate it when it's dark is due to the fact that our electricity is solar powered. (The water is heated by our slow-combustion stove. That's wood powered. We have plenty of wood. We're in an eucalypt forest. On a mountain. I mentioned that last bit before). I just discovered that the sixth and final book of Kate Elliott's "Crown of Stars" series is out in Ballarat. At least, I think it is the final book. Along with the new Raymond E Feist book. And Robert Jordan's eleventh Wheel of Time is due out in another week or two. Hmm. That's quite a bit of money to be spending. And I still don't have Magic of Incarnum. I read quickly - 200 pages an hour or so. I'm rereading Wheel of Time at present; a week's worth has me having finished book 7. Rereading books keeps me occupied. Just as well - books are expensive, and I have a packrat personality: I like keeping my books. Oh dear. And Ravnica, the next set for Magic, is out tomorrow. I also think this month's new D&D releases are both interesting. Help! I'm not particularly rich. It goes the other way, in fact. What little spare money I have gets spent quickly on things I like. Thankfully, I don't smoke or drink alcohol, so much money is saved thereby. Yes, I'm an Australian and I don't drink. And yes, I am 32. No, I'm not in my 20s. Stupid young-appearing face! For some reason, in real life, I'm often thought to be a teenage English boy. One out of three isn't bad. In net life, I've been once mistaken for a girl. It must be someone misreading my name as "Merri C.B." I can't understand it otherwise. There's a reason I use my real face for my avatar. (For the answer, you probably can find it in Ecclesiastes). Cheers!
