August 20, 2003 (Seattle, WA) - Gen Con Indy, The Best Four Days In Gaming (TM), announces today the official date change of Gen Con Indy 2004. The show, originally scheduled to take place on August 5 - 8, 2004 will now be held on August 19 - 22, 2004. The change comes on the heels of the announcement of the Indianapolis Brickyard auto

race to take place in Indianapolis during the convention?s original dates of August 5 - 8.

"The decision to move Gen Con Indy to the week of August 19 didn?t come lightly," said Peter Adkison, CEO of Gen Con LLC. "We had to take a look at the needs of our customers, and moving Gen Con Indy allows us the opportunity to put on the best show possible for our attendees and for the city of Indianapolis."

If a year is too long to wait for The Best Four Days in Gaming, Gen Con will be launching a new show, Gen Con So Cal, in Anaheim, CA December 11 - 14, 2003. Gen Con So Cal will bring the same caliber of gaming to the Southern California market that has made the flagship show, Gen Con Indy, a must-attend for more than 25,000 game fans from around the world.

Thanks for the news tip, johnsemlak! I'm glad they're keeping Gen Con in Indy. I really liked that town. Although early August would have been better, at least they're keeping it sometime in the summer schedule so a lot of people can come. I certainly don't want to be in Indy during another big event like this auto race!

This is great news. I like that they moved it later in the season as it was too close to Origins as well.
Same here. Now that there's a little breathing room between the two, I may go to both of them next year.

Thanks for the update.

Could affect a good number of people going as school will be in. Not me but some. :)

It may affect a few folks, but I figure it's early in the semester, most profs aren't heanding out tests just yet if Unis are in or if it's grade school kids, well, they can still come up on the weekend. Considering how crowded Indy must be for the race, this seems like a fine solution. Also it makes the dealines between Cons a bit longer, so maybe those awaited produtcs of next year will be ready and not rushed. probably not, but still...

In all likelyhood this is a one time move. I believe that it will go back to the last weekend in July in 2005 and 2006.

It is going to interesting to see, not having a Race Day calendar in front of me but I can see conflicts every now and then. :)
