Re: Re: Re: Gen Con Fallout.... DragonCon is in Atlanta, GA -- but that's just a couple hours away from Charlotte :). I've gone to it twice, and in my experience, the costumes at DragonCon are incredibly cool (and often minimalistic -- the convention program actually details Georgia's anti-nudity statutes, and the rent-a-cops end up telling people to go put on some electrical tape :) ). Besides the ubiquitous women-in-fishnets-and-electric-tape costumes, however, there were tons of awesome homemade outfits. My favorite was the fellow (?) who'd constructed his own Megaman suit out of foam and cloth, such that he looked exactly, and I mean precisely, like a cartoonish Nintendo figure. The music at DragonCon was also pretty impressive: lots of great bands, great soundsystem, great lighting. Rocky Horror went on at midnight with the raunchiest floor show I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing -- I thought the Raleigh, NC crowd was rowdy, but I had no idea. The gaming at the two DragonCons I went to -- well, how do I put this? It totally freakin sucked. Disorganized, surly reluctant DMs, players more interested in gaining points for Living Campaign characters than in joining a good time, and more crap. GenCon's costumes were something of a letdown after the spectacle of DragonCon, I admit; while there were occasional ultracool costumes, they were nowhere near as common as they are at DragonCon. And the music was pretty much nonexistent, unless you count Karaoke at the costume ball. (I don't). But the gaming more than made up for it. I'm skipping DragonCon in the future, unless i hear that they've improved the gaming scene mightily. Making GenCon has become a priority. Daniel
