[QUOTE="thormagni, post: 3665222, member: 13637"] I just found out this morning that school actually starts on the 14th, the day before Gen Con starts. I think this is the first time Gen Con has taken place after school started. I had already made plans to only bring the kid to Gen Con on Saturday/Sunday, so this isn't a problem for us, but still. It just seems awfully early to start school. On the good side though, Gen Con is only 2 1/2 weeks away. Geez, I'd better start saving some money :) John's GenCon resolutions: 1) Not to spend so much money and time in the Exhibit Hall! 2) Not to buy so many books! 3) To go to the games I have paid for! 4) To do stuff I didn't do in previous years. 5) To hang out with friends and family and run a game. The Exhibit Hall is just too much of a temptation for me. I'm a compulsive game buyer and the last couple of years I have just come home with too much crap. Especially, when I know that I can buy 90 percent of the stuff at 66 percent of the price after the show. And not have to pay sales tax. So I'm going to try to avoid the Exhibit Hall as much as possible. I have intentionally scheduled games for most of the time the Exhibit Hall is open. I have three whole hours open, so I should be available to avoid it. Last year, I came home with a bunch of books and I don't think we have played a single game that I bought including a gross load of GURPS Traveller and Spycraft. I am going to limit myself to one new book, "Paragons" from Green Ronin -- their "Heroes"-like setting for Mutants & Masterminds. That is the one thing I am really looking forward to and it is a game that we are actually playing. I will also check out the new Battlestar Galactica RPG from Margaret Weis, but I'm not going to buy it at the show. And I will probably buy a set of dice, 'cause I buy a set every year at the show. But otherwise, I am going to keep a list of stuff that looks cool and only buy it after cool reflection and Last year, I actually blew off every single game I paid for. I don't remember what I did, except that I had my son with me most of the week and we spent a lot of time in the Exhibit Hall looking at stuff he wanted to look at. Every year, I say "oh, I wish I had gone to do that" or "I wish I had seen that." I'm going to try to do some of those things this year. Like the art show, or the anime pavilion, or checking out the new video game area. And I would And I am definitely going to run a game of some sort for friends and family.
