[GEN CON UK] Stupid question

Dave Blewer

First Post
OK, I am thinking of going to Gen Con for the first time this year, I have downloaded the pre-registration form and immediatley felt overwhelmed by the amount of choice that slammed into my eyes.

Now, I can just turn up on the day(s) can I not, without pre-registration?

TYold you the question was stupid.

You can, but you can't be sure you will get in the games you want to. Mind you even with pre-registration, that's nots always been a sure thing (remembers games where 30 people pre-registered and only 3 DM's turn up).

Still you can usually get into some games. And its worth not planning some slots to allow for shopping, joining demo games, etc.

Everything Bagpuss said is right, based on last year.

Let me go find the ENWorld game thread and bump it so you can declare you intent to play...if there are any spaces left!

I've had an idea, but I'll post it in that thread...

I've not been going since it moved to London, London is too expensive for me to get to or stay in for any length of time.

I don't expect this years to be very well organised (at least in the RPG department), the RPGA UK folded and its replacement Raven is currently going through a very differcult period judging by the discussions on their website. If anyone knows who is organising what this year RPG wise I'ld be glad to hear about it.

I think I'll wait till its in Amsterdam or Madrid, or somewhere like that they are cheaper (for me) to get to and stay in than London. Which says a lot about the British public transport system.

Bagpuss! I can offer you a place on our couch for the weekend if you're interested...seriously.

And the transport would be, um, £4 or so for Friday, £7 ish for the saturday/sunday and £4 again monday. Not expensive at all! Plus you get to meet me and Simmo from these boards, we share a flat.

How can you turn our offer down!? :D

Old One ;)

I agree with Bagpuss & Tallarn. You're better off booking ahead but leaving slots open for other stuff.

The easy way to determine what to do is:

1. Go to the UK Gen Con site and go to
Events drop down menu -> Roleplaying -> Events Summary. This will give you a handy 2 page table showing what's going on when.

2. Print out the table and decide which games you want to play.

3. Go back to the site and check your choices against the
Events -> Roleplaying -> Pending list. You can't book the pending games in advance.

4. Go to the Events tab and check any non-RPG games you want to play.

5. Preregister for the games that can be booked (i.e. everything except the 'pending' RPG's ). They have a preregistration programme but I wouldn't use it. It's easier to download the PDF schedule and booking form and e-mail them. You should get a reply within 48 hours.

NB that you have to book your entry to the con (what they call 'the badge') at the same time as you book the games. They won't allow you to book games if you haven't paid for entry on that day.

If you have any questions, fire away. :)

If Bagpuss doesn't snag the couch, could there be room for me instead?
