What are your greatest memories in gaming? Are they based on the game system, or on the GM and players you were with? Look again at that game module or supplement; was it the source of the fun, or merely a trigger sparking the imaginations of everyone at the table?

Generic Universe Publishing is a new company formed by Patrick Lawinger, a freelance writer, editor and developer. Recognizing that some of the most talked about RPG experiences are based on material leaving the real work to the imagination of the Game Master and players, G.U.P. is dedicated to promoting individuality, imagination, and originality by providing "generic" products that YOU bring to life. "Generic” and therefore game system independent, these products can be used with virtually any role-playing game system. We’ll provide a spark. You create the fire.

Immediate plans include the City Streets line of products, providing highly detailed city locations designed to create a vibrant role-playing experience. Later plans include expanding the easy to use generic, stat-free, theme to other gaming elements. Plans also include bringing out-of-print or difficult to find role-playing games and supplements to the electronic medium. The first free introductory City Streets product is scheduled for late November with the product line officially beginning in December or early January.

The website at http://www.genericuniverse.com/index.html provides more information about the company and future plans. Stop by and look around. Take part in the growth of a company dedicated to your imagination. Whether it is just by providing your opinions or taking part in the OPEN CALL, your input is always welcome.

I got all excited, because for some reason I thought this was a new RPG that focused on creating your own boy bands.

Looks great, my man. Back in the day there was an awesome line of supplements that detailed generic town and city sites. They had great maps, good illos and plenty of useful flavor text. I can't remember what they were called, though. Dammit. Needless to say, they are long out of print, so I think you are really onto something.

When you get up and running, I can always do a fan-created tie-in with one of your products, providing GURPS or D&D stats for any NPCs you publish. That'd be a great Iridia article, I think. Also, if you ever get a banner ad or anything, let me know and I'll host it at my site.

Peace,
Christian

Yes! Those were great! I also loved Flying Buffalo's Grimtooth Traps.
The entire line had a pretty decent graphical presentation, I think.

Catalyst/Flying Buffalo

Yes, Flying Buffalo has some great stuff. I will be modeling the City Streets line on the CityBook series with some differences for the .pdf market. Still playing with how I'll do art, compilations, etc. If you check deeply into RPG history there are similar products out there that are very, very difficult to find. I would like to bring some of those older products to the electronic market but tracking down the copyright and ownership can be difficult.

Christian, let me know what you want to write ... ;)

Tree, thanks for the good wishes.
I would post more but it is time for breakfast and off to various soccer games all day long.
