Gestalt & prestige class?

Hello all,

A friend of mine is kicking off a campaign and has asked us all to play a "Gestalt" from the Unearthed arcana.

I have a problem when I cannot create a character if I do not first have a personallity in mind (it's all about the role play in our group)...

So I have this guy in mind, and as the Gestalt I wanted to take Monk and Rogue... I started thinking about different variants, because I can never just roll a straight class. :)

I found in the complete warrior the "Invisible Blade"... now, this is a prestige class, and the prerequisites are low enough that you could take this at first level, I believe... I didn't look too closely at it, and it's not really the point anyway.

My question is: Are prestige classes allowed when playing a Gestalt character? I don't recall seeing rules going either way, but I could be wrong. My sense is that it'd make for kind of a pain in the back-side...

FYI - the silent blade prestige class basically gives a few rogue like abilities to a character, so for a gelstalt Rogue / Monk, it'd be a waste of time anyway...

Thoughts?

Prestige classes are always subject to DM approval, but only "theurge" style PrCs are explicitly barred from gestalt (otherwise you could make a character to fill all four traditional roles.)

Yes, you can PrC with gestalt. (DM approval, of course.)

However. You want to be a sick SOB? Gestalt Paladin/Monk then take the feat that allows the classes to stack for smite and unarmed attack damage. (Astetic Knight?)

Of course, as a DM there's no way I would allow that. But as a player? hehehe, might take Vow of Poverty as well. :]

You can take PrCs, but only one PrC per level - i.e., you can't progress in two PrCs at the same time on the two sides of the gestalt. And the GM is advised to disallow PrCs that are intended to combine two normal classes, like mystic theurge or eldritch knight. The gestalt rules were printed before there were feats like Ascetic Rogue that help combine two normal classes, so those feats aren't mentioned, but if they were they'd probably be disallowed too.

You'll find you'll have some trouble meeting the "Bluff 8 ranks" requirement before level 5.
