C'mon man, they actually design MMO's to be addictive, so that you find people displaying symptoms of drug addiction among their player base, even when the only substance being abuse is pixels.

Think about it! it's a high-pressure environment wherein repeated behavior is sporadicly rewarded by extrordinary results!

Consider: in WoW: If you collect (number) of (items) by (mindlessly repetitive task), you get a nice little trinket and your faction status goes up slightly. People become so obsessed with collecting (items) that they forget other details of their lives: like... y'know... bathing.
