I was playing a wizard.  We were adventuring in a swamp that was filled with goblins, and we came across their lair which was a cave that went down at a steep enough angle that the goblins tied a rope to a tree to get down.  At one point, we were up top, and some goblins were coming up, and I decided to do something to stop them.  First I was going to cut the rope, then I was thinking of using a torch to burn it...then magical fire of some sort.   In the end I went with the original plan and just cut it.The DM described the scene where I begin pulling out my dagger...then I put that away and pull out the torch, then put that back and begin working up some magic...then I just say "Forget this!" and pull out my dagger and cut the rope.  It was out of character discussion that turned into some great in character description.The other was a long time ago when we were playing a game.  We came across some bars to bend (using the bend bars rules) and, of course the big 18/36 strength fighter attempts it...and fails...then the ranger (16 strength) attempts...then the fighter tries again...fails again...finally the wizard (11 strength) comes up and...rolls maximum and succeeds.  Just thought I'd share some similar experiences.</blockquote>
