Giants in the Earth discussion: Madmartigan & other Willow characters

The Jack Sparrow discussion has petered out, so now it's time to discuss the second place finisher in the poll.

How would you stat out Madmartigan & other characters from Willow (which can include the book series by Lucas and Claremont)?

Try to stick to D&D feats, classes, etc., unless a third party rule seems very appropriate.

If I recall correctly, Madmaritgan was a 20th level Fighter in the old Willow RPG that came out with the movie. Of course, it makes the end battle seem somewhat less climatic when you realize that General Kael was only 12th.

I've still got that WEG sourcebook (AD&D with the serial numbers filed off), but it's stowed in the garage somewhere right now.

But does it work? phindar's comment suggest that it has holes.

I suggest starting from the movie (and maybe the books) and working from that.

I'll be honest, I don't remember. It's probably been a decade since I even looked at it, and the movie was never one of my favorites to begin with.* I largely picked the book up because I worked in a bookstore and pretty much picked up everything gaming we carried.

*Maybe I'd feel different about it today, but at the time the movie came out, I was in my mid-20s and deadly serious about the things I was deadly serious about. Like fantasy and how it was constantly cheapened by frivolous humor in popular portrayals. Like I said, I was decidedly deadly serious back then. I wonder how the people around me could stand it.

Not in the least. A lot of the character write-ups say things like such-and-such character is "3 levels higher" than the highest level PC, with little more than that for game stats. The only redeeming element is a really interesting backstory for Madmartigan.

I stuck to the movie as I thought the books (the Shadow War books penned by Clairemont) deviated too far from the film. I used 28-point buy for everyone but Bavmorda who got 32 points and I stuck to the core rules for simplicity. I also only listed their most likely feats and skills.
