It may be true and an interesting idea, orginally posted at Cinescape
The big screen version of nostalgic favorite SPEED RACER has been languishing for years in development heck at Warner Brothers, even with such luminaries as Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp circling, and scripts by writers like J.J. Abrams (ALIAS) gathering dust. But now it looks like that's about to change (this writer says hopefully).
Vince Vaughn has come on the project, not only as executive producer but also as actor -- but not to play Speed. No, Vaughn impressed producers Lauren Shuler Donner, Richard Donner, and Joel Silver with his take on what the story should be (more character-oriented), and wants to play none other than Speed's big brother Rex! Yes, he who ran away at an early age to race under the nom de guerre Racer X, and is acts as guardian angel to his unknowing little bro. Albeit it a guardian angel with a big X on his face mask, and a really expository voiceover...
