I have this campaign idea in the back of my mind for a few years now. The way I phrase it is that the characters need to remember their past. Some campaign thoughtsI had: - Seeing a strange, old, temple where the gods' statues look like they do. - Facing a god/devil that already remembers, perhaps he doesn't know they don't, or perhaps he does and manipulates them. - Seeing a temple devoted to them that uses another, perhaps corrupted, image of themselves. - Playing out a prophecy about the gods. - Playing out the history of a god's actions, reliving the past or remembering past similar deeds. - Dream sequence where the PCs do, indeed, play gods or dream of the god's realm. - Defeating apocalyptic prophecies only to find out the world is already doomed, and that they have come down to earth to reforge it not to save it. I plan on using a Greek-like setting. Most NPCs are low-level mooks, with BBEG NPCs and monsters being scions of deities, with the exception of arcane magic which is available to all but is evil (so high-level wizards too). XP is used to mark increasing memory, and magic items are replaced with magical abilities appropriate for the recommended wealth guidelines; there are no or little real magic items. Characters will probably begin as 0-level characters, without special abilities.
