Make your own background story, ask experienced players if any to give you little hints on how to do it.

then;

Pick one 1st level feat that matches your characters playstyle/story.

Pick 2 skills that complement your character

Pick one tool that you like or might need.
Elves do not gain weapon proficiency in 2024. As DM if you can trade this tool proficiency for longbow proficiency.

increase your primary score by +2

increase your secondary score or Con by +1

If you use array, best thing might just be:
add +2 to the "15", add +1 to the "13"
 

You cannot go wrong with criminal or urchin background for a rogue. It feeds the class with a few good options and allows you to pick some other things since the background gives it to you.

The other thought is to go with something that fits your idea of the PC. Maybe the PC grew up in a wizard town or cleric forest retreat. Then just take acolyte or sage and run with that. It would still give you some things, but not as optimized. A couple cantrips and a 1st level spell always comes in handy.

Soldier, guerilla type archer in Elven army.

Guard, acting as a watcher or forester

Sage, acting as a street informant specialized in elvish lore.
