Good day, gentlemen. Has anyone noticed a striking change in Dragon magazine?
Ok. I guess I was rude or something and having been scolded I will attempt to communicate feelings of displeasure without offending anyone. Frankly I don't think I was offending any(one) as I was offending an entity (Paizo) probably made up of and directed by a bunch of blue-blood investors as opposed to true gamers but that's another subject altogether. Now, on to my post that has been partially edited but probably not enough to qualify as passable: I'm sure this has been brought up before, as evidenced by this well written article: http://www.mythosa.net/ART_DragonMag.html (great site, btw) but it needs to be said. Again. Dragon magazine is clearly a cess pool of its former self (hopefully that's a bit nicer). I don't mean to sound old (I'm all of 25) but Dragon magazine used to be the shiznat. The covers used the be BEAUTIFUL, with art from some undisputedly renowned fantasy artists (as evidenced by this cover: http://www.rpgunited.com/mag/dm181.html or this cover: http://www.rpgunited.com/mag/dm179.html or maybe even this cover: http://www.rpgunited.com/mag/dm185.html) Now, the covers are a MESS. Clearly Paizo has a surplus of exclamation points and they are not afraid to share the wealth of messy, overzealous "COME AND GET IT!" type announcements that litter the cover page and do nothing more than serve as acts of shameful desperation. And what happened to the SHORT STORIES?! The cool, reserved font? The "sage advice"? I'm ok with Dungeon's cover and content - but WHY does Dragon have to follow suit? The two magazines are nearly indistinguishable. I have no interest in saving current magazines for posterity as I have with the issues from the early 90s. Granted there is still an acceptable level of good articles and information, but what happened to the beauty, the class? Has anyone else noticed this trend?
