"Good" Deep Woods Sniper + poison

Monster

First Post
I am currently playing an elven archer who is nearing his 3rd level in DWS. The problem is that "Should good guys use poison?" My GM believes -NO, and I agree. But would not my DWS teachers have taught me a new skill as a replacement? Or is this a penilty and level loss for being a "good guy". :)

Your thoughts....

There are no alignment restrictions on poison in 3E. Does it matter if you disintegrate, chop into little bits, incinerate or use a little poison against the 'bad guy'? If you want to hold this over from previous editions, that's fine. But rules are poison is OK for anybody, good or bad.

Technically, no, you wouldn't get any extra abilities. Although, since your DM seems to already agree with you, you might have an okay shot at convincing him to give you something.

That aside, I would say poisoning someone is no more evil than taking a sword and chopping them into little bits, setting them on fire, or throwing vials of acid at them.

Just my two cents. :)

Try using only DEX or STR poisons. There are quite a few that are all natural too, listed in the DMG pg 79.
I do agree with you and your DM about 'good' PCs using poison, but I bend the line making only CON poisons, the deadly ones, for evil only. The heart of it though really depends on what you do after you poisned them on whether it's evil or not or perhaps even why you did.

Chop of legs, reduce Str or Dex to 0. How is this different? Which one is 'good'?

Shoot with arrow in the head, reduce Con to 0. How is this different? Which one is 'good'?

You've some twisted notion of good and evil, my friend. Any non-Con poison is the same to me as doing subdual damage. Any Con poison to me is the same as any knife, flail or crossbow.

Agreed, but this is the same for any weapon, poison or not. Weaker races/cultures often use poison as a way to alter the balance of power. Picture a halfling monk, who does less damage, who delivers contact poisons from specially made gloves, or something like that.
