Good Fantasy Book

Datt

First Post
Okay. I have quite a bit of free time at work. So instead of always being on the internet I have decided to get a good book and start reading. Can you guys give me some suggestions for a good Fantasy book? It doesn't have to be a D&D book, and actually I wouldn't mind if it wasn't a D&D book. I have read the Earthsea trilogy and liked it. Yes it was a trilogy and no there was never a 4th book and no matter what you say you can't convience me there was a 4th book! :p

My dad, brother and friend have been trying to get me to read the Wheel of Time books, but I haven't as of yet. Would anyone else recomend those? I can borrow those from my dad so they would be nice and cheap. :)

NO DO NOT READ THESE.

Go read the thread below about book 10. Read the reviews of the later books on Amazon. Avoid these books.

Fearie Tale by Raymond Feist is an excellent myth based book, but is not fantasy. Awesome book.

A lighthearted fantasy read is Magic Kingdom for sale by Terry Brooks

Roger Zelazney - 9 princes of Amber. Another great read. The series is 5 short 200 page books.

Go to the library, you pay for these books with your taxes, you might as well go read them.

I would have to agree on Fearie Tale by Raymond E. Feist. Excellent modern/fantasy/horror type thing.

Also Magic Kingdom for sale by Terry Brooks is an excellent book. It has been a long time since I've read it, but I remember it being quite good.

I'm just finishing up George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones and have found it to be a very good book. It's so good that I am going to order the rest in the series from SFBC. :)

Try Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. One of my favorite books of the last few years.

Skip them. They aren't worth the time to read.

Great books, but the series is not finished and might not be for four or more years. As long as you don't mind hanging in the wind I highly recommend these.

I recommend:

-Wheel of Time books (like 10 books, another on the way)
-Black Company series by Glen Cook (first part is 3 books)
-Runelords series (3 books, another on the way)
-Lord of the Rings :) (3 books)
-First King of Shannara by Terry Brooks ( 1 book)
-The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara by Terry Brooks(3 books)
-The Death Gate Cycle (I think 7 books)
-Sword of Truth series (8 books)
-Dark Elf Trilogy (3 books)
-Icewind Dale Trilogy (3 books)
-Song of Ice and Fire series

All I can think of right now

I have enjoyed the Bazil Brokentail books by Christopher Rowley, easy reads, well defined world and good characters. While there are a number of them out each book has an ending, not a stopping. :)

William King's Warhammer books Grotex (sp) and Felix are good too.

If you can find them Karl Edward Wagner's Kane books.
