Good ideas for a Dread Necros Cohort

First Post
A simple request for help. I am playing in an evil campaign, where my undead dread necro/warlock is about to gain a cohort. Thing is, I dont want the game to revolve around me as I am already hogging time with my undead. So I am trying to find a good cohort that can aid the group, would fit with my character, and not just get killed the first time we did anything.

we are playing with Gestalt characters, and he will be lvl 5 when he joins us. We use spell points and are playing in a eberron setting. We currently have a warforged, 2 drow, an elf, and me the undead human. We are lacking spot/listen, no rogue, lack healing (1 drow is part cleric), no sorc/wizard, and no front line meat shield. We are heavy in ranged combat and dex combat.

Any 3.5 book is acceptable.

Now that I type it out, I see we are screwed. But were having a great time. So suggestions on cohorts would really help.

To make it match my character, my progression is Dread Necro/fleshwarper//warlock/Tainted Scholar. I am a very charming, and sadistic doctor.

My current thought is Warforged Cloistered Cleric//Warforged Fighter. He would have good hitpoints, wear heavy armor, inflict wounds on me, heal wounds on the others, and with [warforged] domain, repair spells on warforged. And he would be a 24hr person like my character, so we would never sleep/eat/breath...hell we could do each others hair. And with his lack of personality, get along fine with my characters hobbies.

Perhaps a dragon shaman/fighter (or barbarian)? The auras would buff your undead servants and be useful in melee. The fast healing aura would heal living and undead creatures at the same time.

The Archivist from Heroes of Horror wouldn't be a bad option for half of your gestalt. It would give you some of the healing capabilities your party is lacking, plus a few bonuses against certain creature types. As for the other half hard to say, maybe something like the Marshall from the Miniatures Handbook? At that level you would have a couple of minor auras (go with Motivate Dexterity and Motivate Wisdom - you'll get the drop on most things with the Dex aura, and Wis aura will help out with the Spot/Listen rolls) and at least one major (Motivate Urgency? - This would give the party as a whole an additional 5 ft. of movement)

Just a thought.

Paladin / Undead Hunter :D

Seriously, I like the Warforged Cleric idea. Prepared heals for everyone else, spontaneous inflicts for you. Buffs everyone and keeps to the background - take feats and spells that help the group rather than help the cleric or your character only. Well, he has to stay alive, but not going into melee with the big hitters and staying back and not being a threat against spellcasters should take care of that. This should ensure no hard feelings and a chance for the other characters to shine, while giving your character the boost that Leadership is there for.
