Good term for "mental dodge"

Zen? Mindfulness?

The point of a lot of meditation is to allow negative emotion or thoughts to flow through your mind without being drawn into them and losing control or perspective. So it's not about regaining control or being impervious to the effects of negative thoughts/emotions that hit their mark. It is about avoiding the initial "hit." If these words don't work, I suggest checking out some meditation sites for words that will.

Thesaurus.com is my friend. These are the verb forms. Make them nouns at your own peril.

Avert
Avoid
Deflect
Deter
Divert
Elude
Fend Off
Forestall
Shake Off
Shirk
Shunt
Sidestep
Skirt
Thwart
Turn Aside
Ward Off

Wits. Implies mental quickness. I can imagine saying "Roll versus your wits," though I can't imagine saying "roll versus its wits."

I prefer Not Paying Attention.

Slightly more seriously, I think that there's something to the idea that the mental equivalent of dodging is simply not allowing the mental attack to take hold by directing your mentality away from it; literally having your attention be the object that it's trying to "hit."
