Goodman Free RPG Day Modules for $2.00

Goodman selling these is a good thing. Otherwise the ebay auctions for them would be up before you could imagine.

I got a lot out of this event, even though I already play RPGs I exposed my brother to some of it and he liked what he saw. I sent him home with Castles and Crusades, Herolab and the WoD Fairy story/gamebook (which I kind of liked)

Yeah, but page count's relation to price is generally exponential, not linear. So yeah, while $100 for 512 pages is a better deal than $128 for 8 64 page mdoules (at $16), but it's still not really comparable to a single hardback where you could probably get a 512 page book for $50. Indeed, I just bought Delta Green Countdown which was 460 pages and $45.

It's not as bad as the RA:re, whey Necromancer sold what, 300 pages (if that) for $75 and tried to convince you it was much better than their original plan of a $40 hardcover. But it's still overpriced for its page count.

True, but RA:R had other factors for its cost. Such as the print run of 1,000. I believe Joe has substantially larger print runs. Still a lot of it has to do with it being a boxed set, and I much prefer how material in boxed sets is broken down into their own books, with their own covers, plus the maps are usually way cooler/bigger.

I would have been happier with RA:R if they had nice poster sized maps for the Dungeon levels. Still a map booklet is still better than what would have been in a HB book.

I still have my 3 RA:R's for my kids to one day inherit, plus the original 3.0 versions, and the PDF version of both versions.

So Im very happy with how it was redone. Definitely could have been happier.

Whats going to kill me is if I think White Rock will be good enough to become a "classic". Then I'll have to buy two more for my kids to inherit one each.

I read through 51.5 and I'm going to run it for my group this week. It should be really easy to scale it up as they are levels 3-4 and I'm not going to have it connect to DCC 51 since this is my Shackled City Sharn Campaign. We have enough to do right now but a short module like this is a great way to take a break from the over arching campaign plots.

Capsule review/summary for those of us not lucky enough to lay hands on it? (Goodman should be happy: It seems to be the first Free RPG Day goody to go everywhere.)

I will once it is all done. With Origins fast coming up hopefully I'll get it done before the convention.
