Mutants & Masterminds shipped from the printer this week. We got some advanced copies here at GRHQ and they look amazing. Hardback, glorious full color, oh yes.

Barring an act of god (or Cthulhu), Mutants & Masterminds should start hitting retail shelves about Nov. 26.

Buy the book. Roll the dice. Don the mask.

Ooh, I hope it arrives on or before the 26th. Four day weekend to read it . . .

Yeah, the timing is actually working out pretty well for this month. A new release available just in time for Thanksgiving is not a bad thing.

If i didn't know how terrific this book is going to look, i'd being going into fits that i have to wait another 10+ days to get M&M! :)

But given the care and experienced craftsmanship (not to mention the stunning level of fan/customer support that you guys on the GR Forums have provided) that i know has gone into this book, i'm calm enough to wait the few meager days for it to arrive.

Is there enough time left before the book is released for mass consumption that we could get yet another preview? :)

In fact, yes. Monday we'll be putting up the Mutants & Masterminds character sheet, designed by the talented Rick Achberger (who also did the graphic design for the upcoming Spaceship Zero).

How compatible is the book with D20 Modern? Is there much overlap, or do you expect gamers to buy a WotC book if they want rules for skills and feats?

And you know what, this will probably be the first third-party book I'll actually buy. I tend to come up with most of my own stuff and convince myself I'm too poor to spend money on things I can do myself. What's odd is that even though I have written my own supers rules, you have my attention enough that I want to see how well our competition fares.

I do have to wonder, though, how things might be different if Nat20 had started earlier and had Green Ronin's budget to put out a print book. I know it's going to be good, but I somehow hope that it's not as good as ours. ;) I hope that that doesn't come across as an insult or a wish for you to fail. I just can't help but have a little friendly rivalry.

Good luck, and if you want a copy of Four-Color to Fantasy and feel like exchanging pdfs . . . well, I won't complain. :D

Any overlap with d20 Modern is coincidental, since I didn't have access to d20 Modern while developing Mutants & Masterminds and compatibility wasn't the primary concern. If you're using the optional hit point damage system, I'd say things are very compatible.

There's no need for players to buy any other book: Mutants & Masterminds is a complete game, including skills, feats, and all the rules for character creation and advancement. Players don't even need familiarity with d20, although those already familiar with the d20 rules should be able to pick up how to play M&M very quickly.

The game is intended to stand on its own, with the option of importing material (skills, feats, creatures, etc.) from other games if desired with just a bit of conversion or tinkering.

It would be awfully silly of us to forgo the d20 logo and then expect people to get their skills and feats from a WotC book. As Steve notes, Mutants & Masterminds is a complete game, with all the rules, skills, feats, and powers you need to play.

Any chance it will get to stores by saturday?

I don't think so. It's shipping from Osseum to distributors today. I'd be surprised if stores were able to get their copies before next week. But I do expect it to be in stores before Thanksgiving!
