Message: <blockquote data-quote="DM-Rocco" data-source="post: 4550096" data-attributes="member: 14451">I look at the OGC as a double edge sword regarding the magazine Dragon Roots.  I did state in the magazine that the content in the magazine, with the exception of some trademarked or product identity, is Open Content.  I view this as a personal use and not for open display in other publications otherwise, what is the point of selling a magazine if you can get it for free elsewhere.That being said, I do also state that the material submitted by the authors is the property of the author and they can do what they want with it in the future so long as it is clearly stated that Dragon Roots has rights to the material as well and has the right to continue its use in the future.If you want to use material from Dragon Roots Magazine I would prefer that you honor our new contract release that we are having our contributors sign.  In it we ask that all material for use in a forum, other than for personal use, that is OGC or GSL or OGL, is not used for republication for a period of 1 year.  After 1 year we would ask that only portions of the magazine, for instance an article, be used in a manner in which you are presenting and not the whole magazine.  I think this balances the dilemma so the author can freely post his work on forums like this but gives us time to sell the magazine without fear of losing profits.  We haven’t worked out all the details yet, for instance, we don’t have a problem with say Raven Crowking selling his work in issue #1 to another magazine or printing it in his own pdf before a year is up.  Obviously though, if he made his own pdf with his article from Dragon Roots Magazine and posted it here, we wouldn’t be exactly happy as it would again defeat the idea of having it in the magazine.  So this idea does need to be fleshed out a bit and we are working on it.  I am not a lawyer, so there might be an easier way to go about saying it, but I haven’t figured it out yet.Long story short though, the basic idea is that we would prefer to have a year without it being offered for free.  Anything less and we feel that it prohibits sales and defeats the purpose of selling a magazine.
