Gray Ooze question

Starship Cartographer
A gray ooze hits a character, damaging him but not killing him. Does the character then have to run through his equipment list making saving throws for all pieces of clothing and armor?

If so, do magic hats, gloves, cloaks, robes, and such all count as clothing?

Acid (Ex): A gray ooze secretes a digestive acid that quickly dissolves organic material and metal, but not stone. Any melee hit or constrict attack deals acid damage. Armor or clothing dissolves and becomes useless immediately unless it succeeds on a DC 16 Reflex save. A metal or wooden weapon that strikes a gray ooze also dissolves immediately unless it succeeds on a DC 16 Reflex save.

I'd go through that "what equipment's affected first on a bad save chart" in the DMG (?), and work from that. I don't think one hit from a gray ooze should render a foe nude, so I'd make it whack one clothing-type item at a time, starting with armor.

Hope that helps. :)

I agree, have it whack the first item on the list.
Note that under the 3.x rules, item destruction from a failed save on a Fireball et. al. only destroys one item. So, based on that precedent I would apply the same rules to the ooze attack.

Plus, the reason Fireball stops at one item now is because it was a major pain/timewaster going through a PCs complete inventory to see what saves. All the other players were sitting around twiddling their thumbs/talking about OutOfGame topics/snoring for half an hour.
