Message: <blockquote data-quote="MThibault" data-source="post: 498186" data-attributes="member: 7971">Generally speaking, Saves are used to avoid something and checks are used to accomplish something.  So if you wanted to work Balance checks into the Grease spell you could call for one when a player is actively trying to cross (or move within) the greasy area, but if the spell has just been cast (i.e. it isn't the character's turn so he can't actively do anything) or the character is unaware of the grease then a Save would be used.I just stick with the save, but it isn't a bad idea to make Balance a bit more useful in the game (and make the choices more difficult for Rogues).Cheers.</blockquote>
