Great fantasy regions/countries?

Try to think of a region that is really, really awesome, that homebrew settings should steal.

Personally, while I hate how Forgotten Realms stitches great settings together, I love two settings within it:

The Moonshae Isles of the Forgotten Realms

The Hordelands (thank you Dragon magazine for giving these more attention!)

The region around Cauldron and Sasserine is also (ahem) "boss."

Another FR one:

1. The Vilhon Reach. Trading by land or sea, serptine intrigues, marading kobolds in the vast wilderness, bogs full of lizardfolk, Hlondeth itself, a smattering of most of the PC races in regions nearby or in the Reach itself. A long, even ancient history (so plenty of chances for dungeon-delving), with plagues and pestilence coming up often.

Man, I've started up two campaigns down in this are, and I love this place now :D

cheers,

I find myself thinking of the former Great Kingdom area on Oerth. Why, oh why does no one make any adventures in this region? I mean it's "only" the corpse of an empire that has had the most direct influence on the campaign setting.

My wheels are starting to turn on this baby. I can imagine some good "dark n' gritty"/Ravenloft-ish campaigns in the ruins of the See of Medegia, or what's left of the Prelacy of Almor. What the heck are these "hexpools" in Hexpools about? The United Kingdom of Ahlissa, I can picture needing new heroes (even though their king is..."evil"), as authority had been very shaky, and errant lords need to be brought to heel...or aided. Of course, the North Kingdom isn't taking this sitting down and will make their own moves soon, too.

Yeah, I gotta show some love for Greyhawk myself here. I love the whole Sheldomar Valley region myself. Several of my campaigns have been set there.

I always wanted to use the continent of Lantara from the GURPS 3rd Ed adventure 'Caravan to Ein Arras' or something like that. It was very evocative.

I liked the FR region up around Mulmaster. I liked the Mulmaster map best of all, and so wanted to run a campaign set there.
