In the LGG, most of the major evils in the world are in retreat, with the Great Kingdom no longer a potent threat.  The 'Crook of Rao' seemed to me to be a 'Dues Ex Machina' device to put things back to the way they were, and that sucked a lot of drama out of the setting.</blockquote>
