[Grim Tales] Cursed Blue

We have a con coming up in two months here in Austin, and I'm taking that time to build a quick one-shot using Grim Tales.

Originally conceived as an opening adventure to a cycle, this particular scenario is set in 1621 in and around Pegu, Myanmar.

I'd like to get some feedback on the finished adventure (which should be finished soon), especially to make sure that I have the scope right for a ~4 hour game time. Anyone up for it? If so, would it be best to post a file to the thread?

My stock answer is:

"Half as much as you think you will be able to accomplish!" ;)

That was my experience. I will take a look at it, if you would like.

This is remarkably similar to a reply I left in the General forum regarding how much prep time is the right amount. Something along the lines of, "If you don't feel prepared, you won't be. If you feel prepared, you'll have twice as much as you need."

Grim Tales is GREAT for one-shot games, because it plays so fast. Be flexible. Be fast and loose with the DCs and the rules. Maintain your focus on moving the story forward. Plan for maybe one very small fight and definititely one very big/cool/climactic fight. Plan some thinking/detective work. Don't try to plan it out like a standard dungeon crawl. If you have to draw a map using graph paper, you're probably over-preparing.

I will be happy to review it for you.

I should try and go to that con. Has it improved any in the last few years?

I had a great time last year. I ran a Sengoku and a Star Wars RPG game, and there were many many games out there. The cool thing (for me) was that it was very kid-friendly. My oldest ran a Heroquest game and had to turn kids away. Another kid (about 11-12) reworked the Battletech mini rules to be faster and easier to run and was the hit of the con.

I've never been to a 'big' con, so my slack-jawed yokel opinion may be off, I'd recommend it over any of the other Austin gaming cons. (Linucon had one room of gaming + Steve Jackson's pirate game, and Overload-a-con seemed to be focused on L5R...but alas Overload is gone, it seems).

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'll have a draft up this weekend for ya'll's expert opinions.
