Grim Tales + Dragonlance: Do I need d20 Modern?

Mac Callum

First Post
Hello all,

My beloved spouse got me Grim Tales, and I'm putting it to use building a post-War of Chaos Dragonlance setting.

Now in the front of Grim Tales it says I should have d20 Modern. In short, I don't. I have the 3.5 Core books from WotC and the d20 Dragonlance setting. Can anyone explain what d20 Modern will have that I'm missing? I don't need/ want firearm or vehicle rules, mutants, or other "modern/ Mad Max" stuff. Is there some other compelling reason to get it?

Thanks!

You're all set! Everything you need will be in the Core 3.5 books (which Grim Tales also recommends...)

I don't have d20 Modern either (although I've looked through it) and I plan on running a campaign too. You could even make an argument that don't really need the core books either (but they do help).

Welcome to the grim side!

Whoa, star-powered responses! :) Good stuff. Thanks for the quick responses. Now I've got something to work on and distract myself from all the relatives I'm trapped with this weekend ;)

Merry Christmas to all, and thanks again!

If and when you compile any house rules and/or campaign notes, I'd love to see them!

Sure, that's no problem. Keep in mind that when I say "post War of Chaos", I mean like 200-300 years after, not immediately after. I'm trying to get away from all of the characters and storylines that Weis & Hickman set in motion, and, to be honest, I hate the great dragons thing. If I want an BBEG who's totally unbeatable, I'd rather have a Cthulu than a Malistryx.

Ha ha, so this funny thing happened. I got an email from someone entitled "Grim Tales + Dragonlance", but I accidently clicked on Yahoo's "Spam" button, and Yahoo took the email away from me, so I never got to read it. I'm really sorry. Whoever that was, if it's worth your time, you're going to have to resend it. I promise I'll be really careful about not reporting it as Spam. </sheepish shrug>

I had the exact same question, actually. I just got my Grim Tales in the mail yesterday. :)

Looks really cool from what I've read thus far. Some really interesting concepts in there, and that's only up to about page 10 or so. :)
