[GRIM TALES] Slavelords Discussion

soulforge

First Post
I'm still waiting to receive my copy of Slavelords of Cydonia, and so I've spent more time perusing my grim tales.

I'm wondering if anybody out there who has read it, or even better run the campaign have any insight, tricks, tips, or ideas that stuck out as fun in your head to help make it as exciting and smooth as possible.

I also had a question as to how exactly the fetishes work... am I correct in my understanding that the creature can leave through the fetish, but instantly must reappear w/in 5' of the same fetish?? Help would be appreciated.

Same type of fetish.

So they can jump from shadow to shadow, corner to corner, knot to knot, etc.-- basically they can fold space between any two fetishes so that the distance between fetishes doesn't count against their movement.

Neat, huh?

It could be the exact same fetish, of course-- disappearing into the knot on your boot laces from in front of you, to reappear from your laces 5 feet behind you.

Have you read my review? I offered a few pointers on some spots that I would watch out for in it.

Just got my copy! Yay!

Just found out that r/l issues may have rendered 40% of the group unable to play. Boo!

I plan on immersing myself once this round of Ceramic DM is done.

OK I don't have Slavelords yet, but that is just bloody brilliant.

Why did you have to make my next purchase choice far more difficult?

Grrr! :D

Why, thank you.

One of my design goals with the lethid was to make creatures that substituted for some old favorites-- both in terms of Cthuhloid stuff as well as some monsters that were removed from the SRD.

(This idea was inspired by Philip Reed's bloody brilliant 'Possessors' PDF.)

The rgleth have a bit of "Hound of Tindalos" to them-- my recommendation was to allow them to appear/disappear from vertices. My excellent co-authors expanded this concept into a wider selection of "dimensional fetishes" with great flavor.

The rgleth are also designed to replace a pretty well known creature from the SRD with its own dimension-shifting powers. Unlike the nihileth, which attach themselves to the host by covering the head completely (and I'm sure you know what these are meant to look like) the rgleth are a lesser-evolved creature, and must insert themselves directly into the spinal cord of the victim, which must generally be something of limited intelligence, such as an animal.

I am certain by now you can picture the rgleth-hosted black jaguars of the first chapter, with the large spiny lump between their shoulder blades, the two long grasping tentacles flailing about, and the dimension-shifting powers...

Sound familiar yet? :]

I'm very, very proud of the entire lethid mythology/physiology and grateful to Matt Beall and Eric Tam for taking the design seeds and just blowing them the F- out of the water.

GlassJaw, I haven't seen your review yet but will check it out soon.

I understand the fetishes completely now, thanks. In slavelords do we get new fetishes so tha t the players will alway's be guessing.

Have you actually ever run slavelords grimwulf, and if so do you have any hints, tips, or ways you made it better while running it?
