hacking together a Cowboy Bebop setting?

I'm thinking about hacking together a Cowboy bebop setting for my homebrew campaign and I was wondering what people think would be appropriate books to rip material from.

I'm already pretty much set on using a mix of equipment from Spycraft, Star Wars and of course Spycraft's Modern Arms Guide (great book btw).

Any suggestions would be great.

Traveller d20 -- T20 -- comes out in October. Very flexible system. Has rules for intrasystem travel; Cowboy BeBop takes place in one system. Doesn't use jump gates, however. Doesn't need them, really. Also has rules for creating worlds and creatures.

Hehh...

As the mechanics lead for Spycraft, let me also mention that Cowboy Bebop is a favorite of mine among anime. You might want to look at some of the Shadowforce Archer material, as the Slueth class from Archer Foundation might work well for Jet Black (mixed with a touch of Snoop, and maybe some Soldier). The martial artist class from Pan Asia (due out in January, but should have a preview of that class up at the site sooner) works really well for some of Spike's levels. Faye has some levels of Faceman written all over her, and the style feats for gamblng are definitely up her alley. Radical Ed = beeline for the hacker class :). Bebop alos has a surprisingly mystical side to it, with various street shamans having superior insights. The mystic rules/feats might actually find a home in this particular sci-fi setting...

First, let me say: Great job Morg. Spycraft is the bomb.
Shadowforce is a great book as well. I LOVE the magic system in it. I am using Spycraft/Shadowforce for my homebrew sci-fi setting and i have zero complaints. Great stuff.

As an aside, do you know if there is any mystic type book slated for release, possible with more mystic feats, rites and rituals?

Sure!

There's a gob of mystic stuff in the Hand of Glory, next up in the release schedule. But staying on track with Cowboy Bebop, we've got a few advocates in the writing pool who demand that there be a Romany type background/department (Faye lovers unite!). We've got some organized crime stuff comming up soon, so there should be departments for all the bebop crew very soon :).

Glad the system is working out for sci-fi. Seems like it should, being a pretty much standardized cinematic action fare :D.

As Cowboy Bebop isn't exactly an 'espionage' ridden game, would a subtle renaming of the Departments/Classes make it easier for non-spycraft afficionados to follow?

If so, what suggestions might you have to better fit the concept of Departments (i.e. human 'sub-races') into the Cowboy Bebop setting?

This is a question for everyone btw, not just Morgenstern, though I greatly appreciate your input M. Gotta love talkin' with one of the original designers.

I SO love these boards.

With the Firefly TV show looking pretty good so far, I am betting this kind of setting will become more popular pretty quick.

I think the classes listed for D20 modern would better suit a Coboy Bebop campaign, supplemented by the upcoming Ultramodern weapons sourcebook, and ships lifted from Star wars. Other than the space travel, d20 modern seems to fit for most of the locales that were visited in the series.
