Half-creatures

Can you post a final version of the Half-Ogre then? I have a player who is anxiously awaiting this version so he can retrofit his character to keep with the current rules.

Thanks.

Half-Ogre
Size: Medium

· Special Qualities:

· Giant Blood (Ex): For all special abilities and effects, a half-ogre is considered a giant. Half-ogres can use magic items with racially specific powers as giants.

· Darkvision (Ex): The half-ogre has darkvision to a range of 60’.

· Ability Adjustments: +6 Strength, -2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, -4 Intelligence, -2 Charisma. Half-ogres are as strong as an ox and about as smart as one. They are also slow and ugly.

· Armor Class: Half-ogres are naturally tough and gain a +2 natural armor bonus.

· Automatic Languages: Common or Giant

· Favored Class: Barbarian

· ECL: +2

This is what I am suggesting. It is the same as the dragon magazine except for three things. It is not a template but a race. It is not a large creature but a medium. It has different ability adjustments (the same ones we've always used).

So the trade off is it isn't large, which is a downgrade in power, but it has a higher strength and con bonus (though lower int and dex).

I believe our previous discussions were that we didn't want large characters so this fits in. Though, as a side note, with 3.5 rules it is much easier to run large characters.

So, how does this look? I know I've said that many times. I've been hoping for more discussion on it. :)

It looks fine to me. But I can tell you from experience that the strength bonus really wreaks havoc on balancing combat encounters...

I agree, but in the grand scheme of things having the lower touch AC, much fewer hit points, lower saving throws, and almost no skill points (probably 1 per level) should equal it out. He's more suseptable to spells, can take less damage, and gets hit more.

Being two levels behind can suck. A first level half-ogre with 10s for stats (before ajusting) would have 2 feats, 12 hit points, have an 11 AC, have a +0 will save, 4 skill points, a + 4 to hit, and do 2d6+4 damage with a two handed sword.

A 3rd level human fighter would have 5 feats, 27 hit points, have a 10 AC, a +1 will save, 18 skill points, a +3 to hit and do 2d6 damage with a two handed sword.

The half-ogre does a little more damage, 1 better AC, and has +1 better attack, but has less than half the hit points, a lower will save (and other saves), and 14 less skill points. Of course there's darkvision but that doesn't usually matter too much in combat.

It seems pretty equal in the end.

Oh, I agree. It is NOT unbalanced. Just wait until I unleash my mind-bender BBEG and Charm or Dominate him! Let the good times roll....
