Half-dragons in the realms

I recently started a thread entitled Catfolks in the Realms, due to one of my players desire to play one. Well, it's 5 hours to gametime, and he has changed his mind and decided to play a half-dragon instead. So now my question is, how would half-dragons be treated in the Realms (and Cormyr in particular). It must depend on the type as well, I mean, a half-red dragon is surely more suspicious than a half-gold one. The last time I checked, he talked about making a half- shadow dragon half drow... I would suspect he needed a Hat of Disguise or something to avoid being arrested on sight...

Yeah, I'm okay with it. I still think a half-dragon drow is a little bit over the top, but I'm not to prevent my players from making bizarrre choices.

My advice: tell him to rather play a half-celestial, half-dragon, earth element pseudonatural drow. That way, he'll have only one HD for a character level above 12, so he'll die in the first fight, and will want to play some sort of more reasonnable race for his new character, like a gnome.

That said, I'd say it would depend on the dragon type. A half-shadow dragon drow would be a paladin-magnet. He would not be arrested on sight, but killed on sight. Don't forget to give these smiting paladins some protection against negative energy, though.

The type of dragon would depend on the alignment of the rest of the party.

I play a half-dragon in an FR game. So far, not much problems from the commoners and such yet..... But with our DM throwing in the "Dragon Rage" from a novel trilogy both of us have read, who knows? She's a half Silver dragon paladin and it's basically her paladin training that's keeping the worst of this from affecting her...

I do think that a half shadow dragon/half drow would cause some suspicion..... :uhoh: We had a previous party that included a full drow and a half drow and they nearly got attacked by a party of dwarves we'd encountered. It was both my cleric getting in between the two groups and a dwarf in the back doing a detect evil to keep from there being a massacre.

ROFL. Half-Shadow Dragon Half Drow in FR. Thats choice!

It makes perfect sense. I have no problems with that concept, setting wise.

The only problem I see is that he'd have a level adjustment of - what? +6? Depending on what level you want to start with, this character is a dead man walking - or rather dead drow/dragon halfbreed walking.

Well, let's face it. If you're going to do that, you're pretty much asking for a good killing already.

Just about the only thing you could do to further hasten your demise is call yourself "Lord Darky Evil McPuppyStomper."

I also can see this cross-breed making sense. Is this an evil campaign, though? Cormyr would be a tough place for a character like that to exist without serious, and frequent hindrances, unless a heavy investment in disguise/nondetection magic is made. If this character is not evil, I would wonder how well they would battle their inherent inclinations.

Now, change the setting to Westgate...:D Ah, good memories.
