We talked a bit about this on a recent Mortality Radio show. Both smaug and I liked the product, overall. For those who need a good adventure for this setting, I recommend the older Ravenloft module, Web of Illusion. For those not in the know, it's set in an Egyptian type setting, and has good flavor to go with Hamunaptra, IMO. Just strip all Ravenloft setting specific materials out. (There isn't much RL flavor in this one module, anyways.) The BBEG is a Rakshasa, thus, it's NOT for a low level group. On boxed sets, I must admit, I look back at TSR's releases, and miss the extra goodies that were a part of those boxed sets.... Undermountain. Great set, had the books, maps, and the handy cards. Ruins of Myth Drannor. Books, maps, and mini-maps of crypts, random tables, and many other goodies. My overall favorite, the old gray FRCS, which is a CS, as is Hamunaptra. In the gray box, you got the overview map, a zoomed in map of different regions. But, more importantly, you got the local gossip, plot hooks, NPC's, the pantheon, and adventures to get you started. Hall of the Beast Tamers, anyone? But, while we were putting our 30$ down on a boxed set, TSR was quitely going out of business. Would we have paid 40$ back then? In 1990? As compulsive as I was back then, YES, I would have shelled out the 40$. But, I don't think the masses would have. Today, a boxed set is a risk. High production value. The box alone must cost a fortune considering today's printing costs..... And WHAT to include... Oh so much stuff, and so little room. My overall opinion, for Hamunaptra, which is a 40$ product, is that perhaps, it could have been a $44.95 product, which had a few more useful things in it, many of which have been suggested in this thread. I would have liked to see, perhaps, a mini adventure, as a tone setter for the CS. A few cards of crypt layouts, or the like, as in RoMD. And the area by area rumors and lore would have been a boon too. Otherwise, very nice, guys. I like it.
