Hand of Fire Spell question... (Magic of Faerun)

First Post
Hand of Fire from the MoF book has DURATION Instantaneous and in the text says it LASTS for Level time USES. So for example my 4th lvl Druid can attack with this spell until:

1st Attack (hit or miss) 4 times and Hand of Fire is over ?
2nd Attack, Attack and after hitting 4 times spell is over ?
3rd Attack for 4 Rounds ?

I followed the second one... but then comes the question... what happens if I didnt use all attacks ? Do my hands continue to be on fire ? For how long ? How would you adjucate second option ?

Touch attack spells are a little special.

That the duration is instantaneous means that it cannot be dispelled normally, and that afterwards your hand is charged, in this case until you've hit with [level] touches.

If you touch anything, or cast a spell, the spell dissipates from your hand. Otherwise it lasts until you've used it up.

Anything, other than what is a legitimate target for the spell, in which case the spell discharge instead of dissipate.

details... details...

Why would casting dissipate the Hand of Fire ? Is there a rule or would the fire impede material components ? Whats the basis for this ruling ?

If I dont cast, fight, hit or do anything with my hand will it go on indefinetely ? (or until I get tired of burning my clothes by mistake.. )

*Looks up Handfire in MoF*
I assume it is Handfire in the MoF you are asking about?

All Touch spells work this way, see the PHB.

When you cast a Touch spell you charge your hand with magical energy. That energy is meant to be discharged when you touch the spells intended target.
If you touch anything else, or cast another spell, the energy dissipates.

Yes, as long as you don't cast another spell or touch anything else the spell will last indefinitely. It cannot even be dispelled.
(But you won't accidentally set your clothes on fire, as you'll find if you read the spell description.)

It cannot be dispelled by you or by Dispel Magic ?

Thanks ... I will look for these references... sometimes some stuff get unread even by experienced players... its a funny scene thou... walking around with your hands on fire... :)

Well, you can always "dispel" it by touching something, like the hem of your robe, so that it dissipates.
You'll never have trouble with it.
