[Handling LA] How well would this work

I saw this method of handling those races with a LA higher than +0, in etherscope and was wondering how well it would work with straight D&D.

Baically races have an experince debt equal to the total of the xp of all levels equal to his ECL.

Here is an example. A drow has a level adjustment of +2, he will have to pay off the la debt

The debt that the character will have to pay off is 4000 xp. The character earns the amount of xp that a typical 1st level gets, however he must pay off the debt before reaching his 2nd level in a class.

Me, I'd rather use the UA variant that allows people to buy off their LA when they want to if they want to. Buy putting them in a hole, you might be preventing them an early level that they need. Allowing them to choose to buy off an LA once they are eligible (UA suggests beginning at level 3 if I recall correctly) is probably much more indicative of when the loss of XP is less meaningful.

Plus, what about people who would rather not buy off their LA at all? [Granted, I'm not one of them...]
