Okay according to my culture new moon following the predawn rise of Pleiades (Matariki) marks the beginning of the new year when the seeds in the earth begin to open and the sun prepares for its return to summer - that happened today 5 June.

It is a time of celebration, gift giving, remembering the dead and forgiving past debts.

In my old campaign world, each star was believed to be the crystalline body of a fallen hero/diety who died in the apocalyptic battle that occurred at the end of a previous age.
