No problem! While the ICE fan base is not as large as the d20 fanbase, it is very, very solid. I was actually surprised at the number of "closet" RM fans out there. Most like the system, but hate the number of charts, or hate that it takes so long to make a character, and then have the chance to loose it so quickly. (I never lost a RM character as fast as I lost my first D&D3.0 character.... heheh) Well, the rpg market has been part of the frontlist syndrome for years. It took the OGL and d20 licenses to really emphasize it though. All of a sudden you had a lot of companies out there cranking out books as fast as they could trying to grab a piece of the market. In doing so, they perpetuated the frontlist syndrome even faster than normal. Eventually this is going to end up with the distribution system (again, in my opinion) collapsing under its own weight. I think that this will be a slow thing, and that it will happen gradually, and that it might have already started. Yes, that means that I think that d20 both revitalized the industry and also is killing it at the same time, by the endless wave of products. You have multiple companies producing their own versions of the same thing (there are what? 5 different books on dragons for d20?). Each company ends up getting a smaller and smaller piece of the pie.... The situation is hetrodyning on itself.... Never a good thing... Personally, I think that WOTC should have been much more restrictive in the licensing back in the beginning. They should have said,, you can use this for "xx types of products only" That would have allows for companies like the old Judge's Guild, without cutting into their profits. I am positive that the 3.5 revision coming 2 years earlier than originally planned was because the bean counters saw a lapse in D&D sales, and told folks that they had to do it sooner. That they told the folks in charge to start using the model that worked for M:TG.... Like I said before, I expect another revision by 2006, possibly sooner now that Mongoose has a product that is in direct competition with the PHB..... Now once that revision comes (and it is only a matter of time), the d20 community (both publishers and gamers) is going to split. By doing their own PHB, Mongoose has removed their need to depend on the PHB by wotc, so that instead of revising all their books again, they just have to make a few minor changes for the next printing and boom! They are no long dependant on, nor supporting Wotc's sale of the PHB..... Then all the other companies will have to decide which version to follow..... That in itself is likely to split the d20 community wide apart, which is never a good thing.... Gah! I ramble too much.... :D So will I! Please let me know how it goes and how much you enjoy (or don't) the game.... Easy rule of survival.... Always parry!! The best way to ensure survival is to start out with full parry in a combat, and slowly reduce it (and slowly increasing your OB) each round until you can take the foe down.
