Has anyone heard of any plans to update the d20 System Guide?

Of particular interest to me is whether anyone at WotC is considering adding other non-campaign-specific D&D books such at the Epic Level Handbook and the class-specific players guides to the list of WotC products that can be referred to in d20 books.

I can only see upside for WotC if they decide to add more books to the reference list, since such references just increase the market for products whose development costs have already been incurred. It would also decrease the incentive for d20 publishers to come out with products that directly compete with those WotC products to support such publishers' campaign worlds.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks.

WotC does plan to continue adding books to the SRD and there was a recent discussion on the OGF lists regarding the order in which books should be added. It's really just a matter of them scraping together the time to do so.

Oh...and the d20 system guide is what tells you how to use the d20stl. So it looks like you were asking specifically about the SRD.

I'm sure they'll update the d20 system guide in an ongoing basis as they change their minds about things in the d20stl.

There's always talk about adding to the SRD as well. But I'd say you shouldn't expect it until you see it. Everything is subject to change.

Thank you

I would hope that WotC could do a quick update of the "Citations" section d20 System Guide. It would at least allow writers to coordinate their work with the d20 System as fully developed for D&D.

What do you mean by this? WotC does not what you ever to put D&D or Dungeons and Dragons on anything you release. If they did, we'd be talking about the D&D System Guide. We're not. They made a different logo, d20, which they license but they only grant you the right to say Dungeons and Dragons when you use the full text: "Requires the use of the Dungeons & Dragons(R) Player's Handbook, Third Edition, published by Wizards of the Coast(R)” Otherwise you cannot mention D&D.

I had a discussion with Anthony V. at GenCon and he said that both the Manual of the Planes and the Epic Level Handbook are on the "short list" of books to add to the SRD. He never mentioned a timetable, however.

I'm thinking on a much more general level. I'm trying to figure out if, in planning my work, some day I may be able to refer to the ELH just like the Guide now lets me refer to the PHB (subject to all the other requirements of the d20 System License). I know that neither license lets me use the D&D trademark except in the "Requires the use of . . . " notice.

So far, the only citatation of Wizards' work allowed are "Player's Handbook" (or "PHB"), Dungeon Master's Guide as "DMG," Monster Manual as "MM," and Psionic's Handbook."

To refer to other Wizards' works would be both a good and bad thing. Good, if you wish to make a supplemental aid for D&D and expand or add to the existing body of rules. Bad, if you are making a different d20 game and you coerced your gamer-customer to buy more stuff (beyond the Player's Handbook) required to play your game.

If d20 Modern comes out, they may have to expand the existing list of Game Defined Term. For example, "Defense" would share with the meaning of the term "Armor Class."
