Has anyone here played Heavy Gear d20?

Or all the other d20 versions of the Dream Pod Nine settings (Jovian Chronicles, Tribe 8, Core Command)?

Dream Pod Nine has recently started to reprint all their settings with dual d20/Silhouette (their house system) stats in attempt to reach a wider audience, and I was curious if this has actually worked.

So, is anyone here who plays d20 exclusively and was attracted to these settings? Have you tried how the d20 stats work in practice, and what were your experiences? And what did you think of the settings in general?

We played Core Command for a short while to try it out, and it also had d20 and Silhouette stats listed.

The d20 stats looked a lot more reasonable (especially the races, which had almost no differences in the Silhouette system, except for some +/- to stats - with d20 they also have small size, low-light vision, natural armor, etc).

I'm almost sure it would work better with d20. The Silhouette system is pretty bad, really.

Heavy Gear is a good setting as far as I know. A friend has a lot of HG stuff (all?) and likes it a lot. It seems to be their most fleshed out campaign background.

I only know the original Jovian Chronicles, not the DP9 one.

Core Command seems... well... dunno... pretty over the top! ;)

The equipment guide, for example, lists a plethora of different weapon systems (including technology to blast your opponents into oblivion, using black holes via a link to your spaceship), but has almost no "normal" equipment. Mostly weird over the top stuff.

This is a vastly biased viewpoint, but I'll chime in anyway. I worked on the Tribe 8 2nd Ed. core book, and I was the one to handle the OGL conversions in the back of the book. They're based on Modern, and I'm pretty happy with them; I think they carry the essential parts of T8 into d20 Modern, while allowing d20 Modern to handle everything it already handles well. (Others may, of course, disagree.)

I haven't looked at the conversions for the other games, so I can't comment there. Tribe 8 probably had the least conversion necessary, since there's no future tech, no mecha, etc. Just some character creation bits and the magic system.

It sounds like you're more interested in the science-fiction games, but if you have any T8 questions, feel free to ask.

I played the DP9 game for a while, but didn't know they were converting things to d20. Honestly, I think I like the sihloette system better, even if I can't spell it ;)

Matter of opinion, it used to be my favorite system before d20 came along. ;)

The original Mekton version of JC was made by Ianus games (it's sitting on my shelf), which IS DP9. They changed their name later on when they broke away from doing an anime magazine, IIRC.
