Has anyone played a Akashic?

I would like to hear about those players who have played an Akashic from UA.

Well, long ago during a 2e campaign, I played a halfling bard-thief (level 8/8) in a homebrew campaign heavily houseruled. This halfling had met the god-like beings who watched over the world, and was marked with a rune on the forehead by one of them. Hence, when much later he was disintegrated by a staff-of-power's retributive strike, the DM told me the halfling wasn't dead, but was gone to live among those deity-like beings (the "Krista"). This happened 5 years ago in real life...

Today, the same DM is running another campaign in this same setting. Players have played long enough so they are no around 7 to 9 level. Now, he proposed me to join (I didn't play until then, since I was running a campaign, andd it was enough). So, the halfling comes back on the material plane maybe a century later (he didn't age while in the outer plane).

My problem is that since it was a 2e character heavily houseruled, using magic, etc., and since he lived among the "gods" for so long, I don't want to simply convert it straight into a bard-rogue. In addition, I have the AU and never used it until then, so thought this is the chance. So, I thought to make my old 2e halfling into a 9th level Runechildren - Akashic. However, reading the Akashic class, I cannot decide if this would be more fun than a simple rogue or 3.5 bard.

As such, I would be glad to hear your experiences about playing an Akhashic.

Thanks :)

By the way, "fun" is really the issue, because this halfling spent his time doing idiocies, pranks, etc., which by the way led to the death of one PC (and the player leaving the group for ever! :uhoh: ). Now, the new group is one of chaotic characters, so I won't go for a sage.

I've been playing an akashic for some months now and based on your character description, I'd recommend the bard/rogue route instead. While it's a flexible class in many ways it is definitely focused on knowledge and memory. Also, no spellcasting, which every good prankster should dabble in a little ;)

Stick with the Runechild aspect. I'd actually recommend a dual-classed unfettered/wind witch on top of Runechild if you have AU and want to use it. That's a lot closer to what you had but with some cool new stuff. The akashic is much more of a plot exploring character. (I have one in both of my games. The class fits the psych limits and interests of the respective players well it seems.)
