Has anyone used AU for RTTTOEE?

HiHo!

For my next Campaign I want to try the Mega-Adventure "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil" but using Aracana Unearthed instead of the PHP.

I think the Races and Classes should be no problem but I'm not shure if the new Magic System would make the Adventure to hard or to easy. So my question is, have someone thought allready about that or even played RTTTOEE that way?

Ok but if you are playing AU *and* plan to run RttToEE, I believe it would be worth registering there.

I would answer your question but I haven't done it. It seems the main barrier would be that most of the opposition is clerics, which don't exist per se in AU. So you would have to think of the typical AU cultist tempate--or even if there is such a thing. It might be freeing in a way, and allow you to build all kinds of different cultists, and just identify the head members by giving them the Priest feat.

This is a good idea. By the way, there's a prestige class in The Diamond Throne called Mage Priest. It allows you to gain power by being a priest of strange beings from other dimensions. They might be gods, they might not. I would recommend using that for any powerful clerics in RttToEE.

I would recommend visiting Monte's boards if you need AU help. (This post should be in d20 forum, I believe.) Most active discussion of AU on its own has died out over here. It still pops up a lot in discussion, but you're more likely to get lots of help there.

I'm really interested in this question, as I've been looking for a reason to buy RTTTOEE. I think the guys are right about getting more info over at Monte's site.

Well, I'm in a generous mood, and since it only took me two minutes, I pasted and copied the original question and the two responses that helped to answer it over to Monte's AU Miscellaneous Forum. Here's the link to view it AU and RTTTOEE , and you won't even have to register.

I'd be inclined to not bother. I've got it, run quite a bit of it but it was boooorrrrinng. Far too much of it was just room after room of creatures that didn't seem to have any way in or out and would fight to the death. Very little effort seemed to have gone into "dungeon ecology" and there were far too many save or die things for my liking.

I would recommend you try something else other than RttToEE.

(Another reason to dislike it - creature stats are not in the encounter text but in an appendix at the back. Even worse, they are scattered around alphabetically so for one fight you might be flipping between 3 or 4 pages! I'd give it a very low usability score!

Cheers

That's an advantage, IMO. Photocopy the back pages, and you have all the stats in one place. Having the stats in the encounter area text means flipping around when you have surrounding inhabitants react to events, and lots of flipping around when the PCs do something that cause the inhabitants to redeploy.

I have to agree with Plane Sailing, I'm running the module right now, and would say that we are 1/3 of the way through the copper ridge mines... Man-O-man what a slog.

The players seem to be enjoying themselves, but they are approaching it as a tactical scenario generator, not a roleplaying setting...
