Has the Main Page gone Static?

Utrecht

First Post
Potentially stupid question........

With the News moving over to the new site,I have notices that the main enworld page to have become very static (i.e. it has not changed in over a week)

While this does not present a large issue for me since I know where to go in ENWorld, it could appear to be a dead site to someone who is newerer.

Am I just smoking crack here? or are others experiencing the same thing?

TIA

I kinda figured that the big "Go to the new site" notice taking up the main page would clear up any confusion... ;)

Besides, the traffic figures on the new site indicate that nobody is getting confused. :)

Fair enough - although I humbly suggest in the future to move away from from so much text on the main page - especailly as we move away from the 24th of September. (of course this may have been your plan all along)

Personally, I always start to suspect a site when the last date is 6 months ago...... Any by suspect I mean questioning the timeliness of the other information contained on the site.

I have to agree with Utrecht. It might be best to just have a notice saying you have moved with a link to the new site on the old front page. Could be confusing, at least for new people.

Granted there is a date further down the front page of ENWorld, but what part of this (posted at the top of the main page) is hard to understand? :D :D

"Yep, the news is still over at the new site."

There is even a link included. :D

Exactly! I made it as clear as I could - the very first thing you see is a direction and link to the new site. I'm not sure what else I can do to make it easier - if people can't figure that out, well.. there's only so much I can do!

But the argument is moot - you may well think that people might be confused, but the traffic figures indicates that people have managed to solve this arcane riddle! They're not finding it confusing!

Morrus, are you planning to make the new news page (ick, syntax) the default ENWorld homepage? Ie, in the future, will http://www.enworld.org point to what is now http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/news ?

I tend to agree with Utrecht; while people may know that the new page is where things are happening, to have an obsolete page be the first point of call for visitors to ENWorld looks a bit unprofessional.

Eventually, yes. Lots of work to do yet, though. When it actually moves, the URL will be unavailable for 2-3 days while it prpogates through the internet, so I want to leave both sites up for as long as possible in order to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the new location.

Ah, excellent. That makes all of my concerns go away.

I was going to ask what you were envisioning the main page's function to be? (and probably should have at the get go) Typically those pages with lots of text get updated frequently -

- while the more image centric ones are simply a routing stop to get people where they want to do.

Thanks for the info. (and I apoligize if it was stated elsewhere)
