Starfinder Have you ever run Starfinder with a different system?

I really like the Starfinder setting, but I would prefer the idea of running it with a 5e-based system. The two I can think of right off are Dark Matter and Esper Genesis.

Just curious if anyone else here has used a different system for Starfinder. What was your experience like?

I haven't run Starfinder in any other system, but as one of the co-creators of the game AND a 3pp, I've though about doing an Esper Genesis plug-in to run Starfinder in that ruleset. I think Esper Genesis would handle Starfinder quite well.

On my long list of to-do campaigns is a SWADE Starfinder game using the Fantasy and Sci-Fi companions along with core SWADE and Pathfinder for Savage Worlds.

I wanna say it was about a year after Pathfinder 2e came out that we got Pathfinder for Savage Worlds. So here's hoping for Savage Starfinder in 2026!

I thought about this a couple years ago and thought I’d start with RIFTS as the foundation of course there was no sci-fi companion available.

If only I hadn't sold all my Starfinder stuff. I enjoyed the world a lot; but the pathfinder rules set as expected was a bit much for our table. I think our group would love a slightly stripped down version, maybe even simpler than 5e. We also found scaling equipment to be weird. Like, I had to be 10th level to find an approximately 10th level gun? Diagetically, we couldn't square that circle, and that kept pulling us out of the shared reality.

I mean, I guess it's no different than scaling magic items, but for some reason we rebelled against it hard.

Honestly, Stars Without Number with the Space Magic thrown in might work...
