Having just 3 rend attacks is way more useful than claw, claw, bite. Having to remember which is used twice with which die is difficult. Especially if you don't use all attacks on the same person. And even then, if you want to roll all attacks together, you need dice of different colour. And for the fiction is is better to be able to attack the one on the fron woth claws and bite, and the one on the back with the tail. Unarmed strikes for characters always worked that way. So using that idea for monsters seems consistent.</blockquote>
