Have you used a power outside of combat?

So, have you yet used a non-utility power outside of combat? Sya perhaps to solve a puzzle, challenge, to add a bonus to a skill (intimidate maybe), impress some npb's, general showing off etc?

Tell us about it!

I just used Crucial Advice yesterday, immediately after my ranger hit level 2!! I was torn between Crucial Advice and Yield Ground, precisely because I wasn't sure how much use I would get out of it, but it worked a treat!

Spoilers for KotS below.

The party had just arrived at the keep, and the rogue and myself were sneaking down the stairs with the others a short distance back. I rolled well for my Stealth, but the Rogue rolled a 1! Straight away, I used Crucial Advice, and with the +2 bonus from my Wis, she then got a better Stealth check than I did!

Having successfully avoided being noticed by the goblin sentry, we each immediately took cover behind the pillars, and used sign language to coordinate a ranged assault that silently took down the sentry! Yeah Baby! :D I felt like this was D&D: the Special Forces game!!

Unfortunately I then fell into the pit trap  DC20 vs passive Perception? That seems a little high!

Yes. That's why they're powers and not rituals.
I rather like the idea of classes having special powers available only to them and usable outside of combat. There are actually some of the in the rules.

I've used a fair-share of powers outside of combat, especially those with secondary effects.

Such as healing ones, the view in our game/group is that for example a on-hit healing power isn't required to hit to heal but that the power has the character performing both a attack and then performing a separate action that heals someone.

So essentially if a power has an effect that is reasonable to be used outside of combat then it can be used.

One of my players used an eldritch blast as part of a intimidate check during a skill challenge, where they were trying to extract some info from a kobold that they had captured.

Is that what you are looking for?
