If the bag is overloaded, or if sharp objects pierces it (from inside or outside), the bag ruptures and is ruined. All contents are lost forever.

So, how would one go about specifically trying to poke a hole in someone else backpack while engaged in combat? Would you use the Sunder rules?

It seems like it would be fairly easy to do with an arrow in real life; but in D&D-land I can't think of anything short of the Ranged Sunder feat that might apply. And that won't work because I'm picturing a horde of harmless goblins being sent in with explicit orders to "To poke the packs!" of the uber-characters.

Sunder applies to weapons. Use the "attack an object" rules.
