I don't know if this will help you or not, but it works for me. Whenever I'm on a diet, I don't try to make entire categories of food off-limits--eventually my willpower breaks and I gorge on what I'm trying to avoid. Rather than trying to avoid eating something, I'll make it conditional. For whatever reason, rules help me stick to something. Want a piece of chocolate? I make myself jog for three minutes longer than I normally do or do thirty extra pushups. An awesome cheese sauce for my otherwise healthy fish-and-vegetable supper? No other dairy for that entire day and the next one too. Soda pop used to be my big vice, but I just set the rule for myself that I wouldn't drink it with a meal and I would drink only water when thirsty. I treat it like a dessert... And now, I don't really crave it any more. I might have one can a week when I need a pick-me-up or a quick energy boost, but it just doesn't taste as good as it used to. The sugar almost burns going down. Maybe you could tie it to specific in-game accomplishments? Like you can have a treat if you land a crit or lose an in-party bid on a magic item? From personal experience... I highly recommend that you don't try to go cold turkey--make your "vice foods" a rare treat, and set some sort of condition for yourself to "earn" it. Most people that try to go cold turkey eventually break and gorge all at once.
