[QUOTE="Kahuna Burger, post: 1440761, member: 8439"] As some of you probably heard on the Living EN World forum, I’ve come down with a mild to moderate case of the pregnants. ;) (yeah, I just announced a couple of months ago that I was married, I guess fertility problems aren’t going to be an issue in the relationship…) I’m due in September, almost over the morning sickness, pretty excited, but a wee bit worried about finances. See, my job (a veterinary tech and office manager at a small practice) is pretty active, and very hands on. It also has no benefits except reduced cost medical care for my pets. :\ And while the vet had said early on that he would be happy to let me bring the incipient bundle of joy to work while I continued my more administrative duties, he more recently has decided to hand the running of the business over to a new younger vet while he explores semi-retirement. Things aren’t settled enough to discuss the matter with the new boss to be, but he’ll have taken over by the time I deliver. So, long story slightly shorter, I’m looking at an unpaid maternity leave of indeterminate length and exploring my options for working from home. In the past, I’ve been fairly successful at supplementing my income with writing (fairly successful meaning I had to file taxes on it and couldn’t get around showing a profit for 2 or 3 years in a row.) and I’d like to get back into that. However, while I was good at writing (non fiction, mostly pet related, though I have a small contributing author credit in Wrack and Ruin by Bastion press, and have a number of gaming related ideas) editing myself and meeting deadlines, I have to admit that I wasn’t very good at, well, being a freelance writer. With a standing relationship with a publication I could pitch article ideas, accept assignments, even turn in good work on subjects I thought were silly or that I never would show an interest in independently. But when it came to writing dozens of query letters, cold-calling or writing new publications or doing a treatment on a subject I had no idea if anyone would want, I didn’t do so hot. And with my old jobs pretty cold, that’s going to be a massive hurdle. So, the request. If you’d like to help a fellow enworlder out and either work for or know people at publishing houses or magazines who need PAID writing or editing help, give me an in. I can send along copies of my published work, as well as gaming related ideas or side projects that could be expanded on. I don’t expect anyone to be able or willing to hand me a full time job, or a book contract, but I know I have the ability to do this kind of work, and its something I can do from home rather than throwing everything on my honey or rushing back to the office before me and Junior are ready.
