Help! Blessed Weapons!

Tolen Mar

First Post
Ok, last night I was playing my cleric, and one of my companions asked me if there was a way to use holy water on his arrows. I told him if nothing else I have some scrolls of Magic Weapon to use.

So, since we were about to go against undead, I thought Id go ahead and look up the Magic Weapon spell...So here is my problem:

I understand that magic weapon makes it strike true and auto crit and all that, but what has me confused is this quote:

"Also, the weapon is considered blessed, which means it has special effects against certain creatures."

So, I looked at the spell Bless...It doesnt sound like special effects against certain creatures...I looked at Bless Weapon. It has the same quote. I looked at Bless water: same quote. I even looked at Holy Water: same quote.

I then spent the rest of the session trying to keep one eye on the game, and the other going through my books looking for what bless does to certain creatures. That quote is straight out of the book. It gives no page numbers, no "See also's", Nowhere in the PHB or DMG (or even Defenders of the Faith) is there anything about blessed items aside from those spells.

I hope Im just looking past it. Does anyone know what "special effects" blessed items have against which "certain creatures?"

More importantly, can you tell me where to find it so I can mark it for future reference?

The creatures specially affected by blessed weapons have the appropriate entry in their MM description. One creature that comes to mind is the Rakhasha that instantly dies if struck with a blessed arrow (well at least that's the way it was in 2e)

Edit (sorry if i ended up double-posting) (from the Rakshasha description)

Vulnerable to Blessed Crossbow Bolts (Ex): Any hit scored with a blessed crossbow bolt instantly slays a rakshasa.

Demons and devils take normal damage from blessed weapons also i believe

I know imps only take normal damage from magical blessed weapons.

I've also read (don't know where) that any magic weapon held by a paladin is automatically considered blessed.

It's listed in specific monster references. The most obvious one is the Rakshasa, which dies instantly if hit with a blessed crossbow bolt. Also, for certain fiends that have regeneration, you can use a blessed weapon to do normal damage.

However, your cleric may or may not know which monsters it applies to, since player knowledge should be kept separate from character knowledge. Ask your DM how much the PC knows about the vulnerable monsters.

Wherever it was, it was not in the core books. There is no such rule in D&D 3e. The paladin does have the bless weapon spell, though.

Thanks. That helps. I just wish they had done that better. like adding "(for example, see Rahkshasa)" and giving a blurb about it somewhere would have been nice as well.

thanks again.
