HELP! Bola info needed!

Steverooo

First Post
Would someone kindly post the complete stats on the bola (size, type (simple, martial, exotic), cost, weight, damage, threat ranger, critical, where the details were published, and anything they listed relating to it)? I need it for an article I'm working on.

Thanks!

Here are bola stats from AEG's Mercenaries. Not entirely sure I agree with the DC to escape (couldn't it be too high?), but anyhow:

Exotic Weapon - Ranged
Size: M
Cost: 5sp
Damage: Special
Critical: None
Range Increment: 50'
Weight: 2lb
Type: Bludgeoning

Effect: When attacking with the bola, make a ranged touch attack against the target. A successful hit means that the target is tied up as if it had been bound with rope. A bound target may make an Escape Artist check with a DC equal to your attack roll to attempt to free himself from the bola.

A bola may also be used to make a trip attack as a ranged attack. Make your attack roll as normal. On a successful hit, make a Strength check opposed by the target's Dexterity or Strength (whichever is higher). The bola's Strength is considered to be 25 for this roll. A large target receives a +4 circumstance bonus to this roll, while Small targets receive a -4 penalty and Tiny targets receive a -8 penalty. Moving targets receive a -4 to this roll. Running targets receive a -8 penalty to this roll. If the roll is successful, the target is tripped and bound.

The bola can only be used on creatures from Tiny to Large Size. A bola is so large that it takes a full round action to throw.

Thanks!

Thank you, CC! :D

Yup, have to agree with you that once you get a +13 attack bonus, having to Escape Artist vs. that PLUS 1D20 is a bit much (especially for an intelligent humanoid with legs wrapped and hands free)! Now if it was just against the 1D20...

Even with the arms bound, getting out of a bola is as easy (for an intelligent creature) as spinning around, or rolling over a few times...

Happy new year!

Here are the stats for the bolas and barbed bolas, from Dragon #275 ("The Right Tool for the Job," by Andy Collins):

Bolas: small, exotic, 10 gp, 1d6*/x2 crit, range inc. 10, 3 lbs., bludgeoning

Takes a ranged touch attack to hit, target makes a REF save (DC = attack roll); failure means he takes subdual dmg. and is pinned; success means he takes normal damage and is not pinned. Breaking free requires: STR check, DC 20, or Escape Artist, DC 20, or cut out (5 hp to the bolas from a slashing weapon) - and is always a full-round action, with taking 10 or 20 allowed.

Bolas, Barbed: small, exotic, 20 gp, 1d6/x2 crit, range inc. 10, 4 lbs., piercing

Identical to bolas except always deals normal damage, and failed attempts to break or wriggle free deal 1d4 dmg. to the escaping char.

I think that covers it. :)
